Dr. Juan José Larrañaga is an outstanding surgeon specialized in general surgery, head and neck surgery, and plastic surgery. With more than 20 years of experience in the field of oncological and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Larrañaga has dedicated his career to improving the quality of life of his patients through advanced procedures and innovative techniques.
Throughout his career, Dr. Larrañaga has worked at the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, where he has held various leadership positions, including Head of the Head and Neck, Cranio-Maxillofacial and Reconstructive Surgery Section. His experience covers a wide range of areas of interest, such as head and neck oncological surgery, addressing complex cases of tumors, reconstructions, including cranio-maxillofacial, microsurgical breast and chest wall, abdominal wall, perineum and limb reconstructions. He is especially recognized for his work in facial and nasal reconstruction, and his interest in the development of a facial transplant program in Argentina.
He has developed multiple reconstructive microsurgery programs and has promoted multidisciplinary teams for the treatment of skin cancer and skull base pathologies.
Regarding his academic training, Dr. Larrañaga completed a residency in General Surgery at the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires and carried out multiple fellowships in Head and Neck Surgery and Plastic Surgery at world-renowned institutions, such as Ghent University in Belgium and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan. In addition, he has participated in surgical leadership programs at Harvard University and has visited surgical centers in New York, Boston, Oklahoma and Rome to perfect his skills and knowledge.
Dr. Larrañaga teaches reconstructive and head and neck surgery courses nationally and internationally, as well as being the author of numerous scientific publications in high-impact journals. He has also received multiple awards for his contribution to reconstructive surgery and actively participates in research on bone regeneration and tissue engineering.
In addition to his clinical and academic work, he has participated in humanitarian missions and collaborates with organizations supporting youth in Argentina.
